How can we improve our translation quality?

I am sure most of you know what I mean, but we are doing substantial translation work for our manuals, marketing collaterals, and training courses etc. and are often frustrated with the large amount of translation issues. Instead of changing vendors frequently, is there anything we can do that's relatively painless to improve our translation performance rather quickly? Thanks in advance for any advice you can provide!

If you look carefully at the translation issues, most of them might have something to do with the fact that technical terms are translated incorrectly or inconsistently. This is why it's important to make sure you have a process and the right tools to manage your terminology at the source level. There are many terminology tools on the market, but make sure you select one that allows seamless collaboration among your product managers, marketing folks and writers and translators with robust version control.

Translator training should help improve your linguists' performance. You can't just hand them the glossary, style guide and expect them to absorb everything on their own automatically. Good old and on-going training is still very important if you want your translators to consistently deliver quality work.
